What happens after a decision is made

How you find out the result of your application and how you get paid.

The outcome of your application

Notice of decision

You will receive a written notice of decision following assessment of your application. The notice of decision will outline:

  • the outcome of the decision (whether financial assistance is provided or refused)
  • the reasons for the decision
  • the amount payable to you or a service provider
  • any conditions placed on the payment of assistance, and
  • your right to ask for a review of the decision.

How you get paid

Once the notice of decision has been made, you will receive a notification of the payment decision.

By default, any payment you get from the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) will be sent to your bank account.

If you provide proof that you have already paid an invoice, FAS will reimburse you directly. Receipts and invoices (and other supporting material) must be submitted within 10 years of the decision.

FAS can also pay a service provider directly.

Making changes to your assistance

Variations

After you receive the outcome of your application, you may want to seek to change your financial assistance, also known as a variation. This might be because your circumstances have changed, or you need support in a different way.

More information on variations will become available when FAS opens.

Reviews and appeals

If you are unhappy with a FAS decision, you can ask FAS for a review of the decision.

A different and more senior FAS staff member will do this review and relook at the decision.

If you are still unhappy with the decision after this review, you can then ask the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) to look at the decision.

More information about the review and appeal process will become available when FAS opens.
